to knock yourself out

This is Mário, from Brazil. Coach Shane’s videos are the best way to learn English using easy expressions. I like to watch the e-cubed videos and dictate the sentences. I did the first part. Why don’t you help me? Could you do the second part? Leave it down below in the comments.

To knock yourself out (video 320).

Hello everybody! Welcome back to E3 (E-cubed). Today we have a very useful expression, but this expression actually has one common meaning in America and another common meaning in the UK. Actually, in America, we use both meanings. Today, we gonna study the American meaning and tomorrow we gonna study the other meaning, which is common in both countries. And the expression is “knock yourself out”. To knock yourself out. So, look in the dictionary, to knock out means to hit somebody really hard, so they faint. Knock yourself out, pow. No, it doesn’t mean that. In America, this expression usually means help yourself. Fell free, indulge yourself, knock yourself out. Hey, can I watch your television? Knock yourself out. Feel free, change the channels, watch TV, don’t worry about it. Uh, you have beer in your refrigerator, Shane. Knock yourself out. Go ahead. Have a beer, I don’t care. Help yourself. Fell free. Indulge, enjoy yourself. That’s a great expression. Knock yourself out. Check out the dialogue:

Ooh! Cookies^^
Knock yourself out.
Really?
Yeah! I’ve got more in the oven^^

I got the first part and the dialogue. Now it’s your turn. Listen to the Coach Shane’s explanations and transcribe the second part of the video. Leave your transcript in the comments. If you are a Portuguese reader, translate it. It is an excellent exercise.

See you later.

TRADUÇÃO LIVRE PARA O PORTUGUÊS

Meu nome é Mário e sou do Brasil. Eu fiz a primeira parte. Por que você não me ajuda? Você poderia fazer a segunda parte?

E a expressão é "fique à vontade". Fique à vontade. Então, procure no dicionário, to knock out significa bater em alguém com muita força, nocautear, e então ele desmaia. Nocaute, pow.

Ah! Biscoitos^^
Sirva-se.
Pode mesmo?
Sim! Eu tenho mais no forno^^

Eu fiz a primeira parte e o diálogo. Agora é a sua vez. Ouça as explicações do Coach Shane e transcreva a segunda parte do vídeo. Deixe sua transcrição nos comentários. Se você lê Português, traduza o texto. É um excelente exercício.

Até mais.
